1. The Break

Players toss a coin to decide who breaks (winner's choice).
Balls must be racked with the black in the centre.
Both players must observe the break.
On the break:
- At least one ball must be potted, OR
- A minimum of two balls must hit a cushion after contact.
If neither happens, this is an illegal break. The opponent may:
- Re-rack and break, OR
- Play the table as is.
If the player who breaks does not make a legal pot, the table is still deemed open for the next player.

If only the black is potted on the break, the breaker wins the game.
If the black is potted on the break with any other ball, the breaker loses the game.
If the white is potted (and the black is not), ball in hand to opponent.
If the white leaves the table, ball in hand to opponent.
If one ball from each group is potted, the breaker nominates their group and continues their turn.

2. Legal Shot

To be a legal shot:

Failure to meet these conditions is a standard foul.

Standard fouls include:

Potting the white.
Hitting an opponent’s ball first.
Failing to hit any ball.
Double hits or push shots.
Moving a ball accidentally with body or cue.
If you pot your ball and an opponent’s ball in the same shot.
If the black and white are potted in the same shot and either player still has coloured balls on the table.
If any ball leaves the table (the ball is retrieved and placed on or as close to the black 8 ball dot).
Accidentally striking the cue ball with any part of the cue other than the tip in general play. Positioning the cue ball with the cue is allowed as long as the tip of the cue is not used.
Accidentally striking any ball other than the cue ball with any part of the cue or cue tip.
Playing a shot while not having at least one foot touching the floor.
A player's body, clothing, jewellery or accessory, or part of a cue (except for the tip in a legal shot), comes into contact with any ball.

Standard fouls result in ball-in-hand one shot to opponent (anywhere on the table and shooting in any direction).

When your name and match are called, you will have 2 minutes to arrive at your allocated table and be ready to play.
- Failure to do so will result in a forfeit.
Each player is allotted 45 seconds for each shot. The tip of the cue must have made contact with the cue ball within this time or a standard foul shall be granted to the opponent.
- The 45 second shot clock will commence once all balls come to rest.
- One 15 second extension per frame is permitted per player.

A player is snookered if:

Under pub rules:

No special relief is given.
The player must attempt a legal shot.
Deliberate failure to attempt a legal hit may be deemed a foul.
A player may snooker an opponent with a legal shot; outside the break, no ball is required to hit a cushion.

The player who pockets their entire group and THEN legally pockets the eight-ball wins the game. The eight-ball must be potted in a separate shot.

You lose the match immediately if you:

Pot the black before clearing your group (except on the break).
Pot the black and white in the same shot with no remaining coloured balls of any player on the table.
Forfeit the match.

No coaching. A player is required to play without receiving any advice from other persons relating to the playing of the frame. If a team member or supporter of a player offers advice, the referee will issue a "First and final warning" to that person that a repetition will result in the player being penalised via a standard foul.
No loitering. We understand that you want to support your friends, but keep the area around the tables free when you are not taking your shot or you are not playing the match. This includes standing by the table, standing by or near the other player, or trying to distract or intimidate the opponent.
- Failure to heed this rule will result in a standard foul for the player at fault.
Game Over. As soon as the game has ended;
- the winner must go and advise the organiser who won the match, and
- the loser must re-rack the balls on the table ready for the next match.

If a situation is unclear, venue house rules apply.
The competition organiser has the final decision.
Players may bring their own regular cue or use the house cues.
No refunds.
No buy backs.
The following behaviours may result in warning or disqualification:
- Abusive behaviour
- Deliberate distraction
- Excessive delay of play
